First up, this article may contain some spoilers. ***SPOILER ALERT*** So, if you've been trying to avoid any advanced knowledge about the upcoming season of AMC's The Walking Dead, then you'd better wait to read this article sometime after the season premiere on October 7th.
Now, it's no secret that Andrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes will be making his exit from the show this year around mid-season. There's a new showrunner for TWD (Angela Kang) and she's been praised for her treatment of Season 9 thus far and the way that the show has taken a dramatic turn. Even die-hard fans of TWD have complained that the last 3 seasons were emotionally-manipulative and downright boring. Producers of the show have promised a complete 180-degree fix for season 9.
For starters, we know that Rick Grimes will be leaving the show. On a wagon...in a box...that much is not quite known. However, Robert Kirkman, the story's creator revealed at the New York Comic-con on Thursday that he already has Rick's death planned out and it is on the way.
Kirkman also dropped another juicy tid-bit by admitting that he "pitched the death of Judith so many times it's not even funny" to the AMC series producers. In the original comics, Judith died with Lori but she has been a part of the episodic drama since her mother's death. Kirkman wants Judith dead, but her fate on the show has not been sealed. Killing a character so innocent would be gut-wrenching even for TWD. In the new zombie apocalypse novel "The Zombie Doctor" protagonist Dr. Kayla Greene also has to make some tough choices about innocent lives, but even she wouldn't stoop so low.
That leads to an interesting discussion:
What will happen to Judith after Rick leaves the show?
Will Rick simply relocate and take Judith with him?
Does Rick die and Judith stays with Michone?
Or does Kirkman get his wish and both Rick and Judith get killed?
That much remains to be seen. I guess we will all have to wait and see after the season 9 premiere of AMC's The Walking Dead on October 7th, 2018.
