Without warning, Tatem holstered her gun and pushed off the wall. She sprinted to the edge of the building and leaped onto the front of the hovering ship. She landed roughly against the cockpit glass and the wind rushed from her lungs.
“Tatem!” shouted Magnolia.
Tatem held on tightly as the vehicle spun away from the building. She drew her gun again and fired a few shots through the glass. A few shards speckled her cheek. The hovercraft sputtered and plummeted with Tatem Montgomery desperately clinging to it.
Magnolia ran to the edge skidding to a halt. She fell down face first in the rubble scraping her arms and hands. She watched in shock as the hovercraft tumbled end over end through the sky lanes. Tears began to well in her eyes, and she hid her head in the crook of her arm.
Seconds later, the sound of the hovercraft’s engine made her look up again. It was getting louder. The craft rose from beneath the ledge wobbling and teetering like a drunkard. Tatem was now piloting the ship with one hand through the smashed glass. Magnolia smiled and chuckled in amazement as Tatem waved her over.
“Get in. We’ve got a new ride,” said Tatem.
